John Masarei is a retired chemical pathologist. He graduated MB BS from UWA in 1961 and MD (UWA) by thesis in 1968. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, a Founder Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Pathologists and Fellow of the Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists. He has held academic appointments in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong. In his early professional life he worked in a rural hospital in Fiji and later taught Physiology at the Fiji School of Medicine. He took part in the Australia/China (Shandong Medical University) Project 1984-1987.

 

He holds an adjunct appointment of Clinical Professor in the School of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, UWA and is an Emeritus Consultant at RPH. Prevention of War and promotion of Human Rights have been longstanding interests. John is currently Chair of the Uniting Church's Social Justice Board in WA. He is married to Marylee, and they have four daughters.
