HIV/AIDS in SE Asia and the role of the Media


This week the focus will be on media coverage of global health issues such as HIV/AIDS.

Dr Trevor Cullen is an Associate Professor of Journalism at Edith Cowan University with a special interest in the media coverage of HIV/AIDS in South-East Asia. He will discuss the media coverage of HIV/AIDS in Southeast Asia over the last few decades including trends in AIDS reporting, the responsibilities of the media in reporting on HIV/AIDS, the impact of reporting on community perceptions, and how this influences health outcomes.

Dr Norman Swan from Radio National’s Health Report will also examine the media coverage of global health issues.
